Astrid Haerens is schrijver van proza, poëzie en non-fictie.
Haar werk verkent, onder andere,
de lichamelijke en sensorische aspecten van schrijven. Daarnaast onderzoekt ze de sociale dimensies van schrijven in haar werk met collectieven, als performer, curator, leraar en vriend.
Astrid Haerens (1989) groeide op in Zwevegem en woont in Brussel. Ze behaalde een Master in Woordkunst aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen. In september 2017 verscheen haar debuutroman Stadspanters bij uitgeverij Polis. In 2019 trok Astrid door de Westhoek en maakte een multimediale poëzieplattegrond en film over de streek, samen met regisseur Leonardo Van Dijl. Voorjaar 2022 verscheen haar poëziedebuut Oerhert bij uitgeverij Atlas Contact. Oerhert won de Poëziedebuutprijs 2023 en werd genomineerd voor de Herman de Coninckprijs en de C. Buddingh’-prijs 2023. Haar poëzie werd vertaald naar het Engels (Egan Garr), Frans (Jan Mysjkin, Daniel Cunin), Italiaans (Franco Paris) en Roemeens (Iulia Gândila). In april 2026 verschijnt Erosie, haar tweede roman, bij Atlas Contact. Haar werk is te lezen in diverse (internationale) literaire tijdschriften en op online platforms.
Astrid betreedt regelmatig het podium, alleen of samen met anderen. Binnen haar performances onderzoekt ze hoe taal belichaamd kan worden en (rituele) ruimtes kan creëren. Met zangeres en componiste Mariske Broeckmeyer en celliste Jasmijn Lootens maakte ze de LP Anger’s family tree, die in januari 2024 uitkwam bij W.E.R.F. records. Met deze plaat gingen ze in 2024 en 2025 op tournee onder Jazzlab.
In 2022 werd Astrid geselecteerd voor Versopolis, een Europees platform voor opkomend literair talent. In 2023 & 2024 was ze Vlaamse writer-in-residence aan de Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht.
Van 2022 tot 2024 was Astrid Letterzetter van Kortrijk, een alternatieve invulling van het stadsdichterschap. Ze leidde er een collectief van schrijvers en was twee jaar curator van het Memento woordkunstenfestival.In 2025 cureerde ze Ecopolis festival Kortrijk, samen met noon collective.
Daarnaast werkt ze als docent Schrijven en Literaire analyse aan het conservatorium van Antwerpen en geeft ze les aan de Educatieve Master Schrijven aan het RITCS in Brussel.
Astrid Haerens (1989) lives and works in Brussels. She holds a Master’s degree in Word Art (Performing Arts) at the Antwerp Conservatory. Astrid writes prose, poetry and non-fiction and teaches at the Antwerp Conservatory and RITCS Brussels. Her work explores, among other things, the physical and sensory aspects of writing. In addition to her writing practice, she investigates the social aspects of writing in her work with collectives, as a performer, a curator, a teacher and as a friend.
In 2017 she made her prose debute with Stadspanters [Urban Leopards] an intense, almost liquid portrait of twenty-somethings struggling with their identity in Brussels. For her second poetry project, Iedereen Dichter, [Everyone’s a Poet] Haerens left the metropolis of Brussels and moved to the rural area of the Westhoek. In March 2022 her debut collection, Oerhert [Irish elk] came out. In the book Haerens invistigates the dynamics and different kinds of power over a female body. Oerhert won de Poëziedebuutprijs 2023 for best poetry debut. The book was nominated for de Herman de Coninckprijs 2023 and de C. Buddingh'prijs 2023. Her poetry was translated to English (Egan Garr), French (Jan Mysjkin, Daniel Cunin), Italian (Franco Paris) and Romanian (Iulia Gândila). In April 2026, Erosie [Erosion], her second novel, will be published at Atlas Contact.
In her performances, Astrid explores how poetry can be brought to a stage, including together with sound artist Mariske Broeckmeyer (MARIS). With MARIS and cellist Jasmijn Lootens, she made the LP ‘Anger’s family tree’, which was released in January 2024 by W.E.R.F. records and with which they toured in 2024 and 2025 with Jazzlab.
In 2022, she was selected for Versopolis, a European platform for emerging literary talent. In 2023 & 2024 she was the Flemish writer-in-residence at the Jan van Ecyk Academy Maastricht. Since July 2022 she is the fourth city poet of Kortrijk (2022-2024), ‘Letterzetter’, where she has lead a collective of young writers and curated the Memento Woordkunstenfestival. In 2025, she curated Ecopolis Kortrijk together with Noon collective.
